Rocky Stole Our Pickup Truck (Part 1 and 2 in 3D)

Part 1:

Part 2:

I left the keys in the old Ford when Janice was out picking ferns (I thought she was hunting mushrooms), and I went out in the woods to feed the lion.
Rocky, the 13 year old broad hitchhiker that we picked up jumped in the truck and drove away, i.e. she stole it.
Little did she know that I had a hidden spy camera in the cab, pointing out the back window. We could watch her live, once the feed delay and lag got under control. It was just a matter of time, before we figured out where she went. Then, I jumped on my motorcycle and drove 100 mph to where she had parked the pickup… I spanked her hand, i.e. I told her to go fly a kite, put the motorcycle in the back of the pickup and drove it home… good thing, too, because Janice has to drive it to work in the morning…
Tomorrow night, things should be back to normal, and we can get back to our decent conversions, e.g. talking about tattoos and flashing boobs.

Every kite I make is designed on a computer. I used Corel Draw in the 90’s to design kites. Some of the ideas originate “on paper”, but they always end up up on my computer ASAP. From here on out, I want to design them in a 3D program and Google SketchUp seems to work fine. I really enjoy rendering them in stereoscopic 3D, i.e. for viewing with red/cyan anaglyph glasses, since stereoscopy is one of my biggest passions.
I made two versions of the Nerd Bird… a 12-line and a quad-line version. The first 12-line kite was painted Tyvek and I wore out one ripstop version after that. The 12-line kite has a 12 foot wingspan and the quad-line about 5 feet, if I remember correctly.
The quad-line version was actually an afterthought. Janice called the 12-line Nerd Bird the “Mama” and the quad-line kite “Baby”.
I flew the “Mama” and Janice flew “Baby” at the same time for some casual Puppet Kite interaction in Dubai in the late ’90’s, but I don’t have any pix of us doing that. I think that was the only time we ever tried it. It was a blast.
Here are three 2D snapshots of ripstop kite #2 being flown in Japan in 2004:

This kite would fly like crap. Trust me.

I have heard this comment too many times… that “anything” will fly if
you attach 4 lines to it. When I first started making and flying
quad-line kites, the comment pissed me off. Eventually, I just laughed
when I heard it, and I’ve been laughing ever since (although it really
isn’t that funny). IMHO, the comment is an attempt at undermining the
talents of the quad-line kiteflier as well as the quad-line kitemaker.
AAMOF, although many shapes can be successfully quad-lined, there is a
“formula” to designing them to fly well, instead of just being able to
“get them into the air”.
